The park opened in 1583 with the discovery of a natural spring, making it the oldest surviving amusement park in the world. Over time, more and more business people settled down due to the large influx of visitors. Today, Bakken is characterized by a mix of classic and modern rides. One of the attractions is one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in Europe, the Chutebanen, which went into operation in 1932.
